This is sofa: part 1 of 3

You will learn everything you need to know for true success. In this video, I am stripping all of the old fabric off the sofa frame. I literally start at the bottom and work my way up to the top until the frame is bare. It’s really interesting to see how furniture is constructed and how all the fabric pieces are attached to the frame. Furniture frames are really just simple wooden forms covered by fluffy batting and fabric. My sofa has eight-way-hand-tied springs and a hardwood mahogany frame – the hallmark of a quality piece of furniture and the perfect candidate for a project of this magnitude.

This step-by-step process shows all internal elements of a typical sofa. I offer suggestions and tips to make your process just as easy as mine. Once all the fabric pieces are removed, I show you how to make patterns out of the old pieces. You will learn how to line up and cut out your new fabric so that the new fabric is perfectly placed on the old frame. I even teach you how to slightly change a couple of design features on the sofa to make it appear more custom.
