Learn how to decorate bride and groom wedding cookies!
I will show you how to decorate bride and groom wedding cookies in this video tutorial. My best sugar cookie recipe is used as a base for the royal icing decorations. I have perfected this recipe over time. You can also view the recipe video on my site and see how I put it all together.
Here is the recipe for bride and groom wedding cookies:
- 3/4 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cups Crisco shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla
- 1 teaspoon pure almond extract
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Add baking powder, salt and flour. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Place cookie sheet in refrigerator for 15 minutes. Place directly into oven set at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes and transfer to cooling racks. The shapes will spread slightly while baking.
The key to how to decorate cookies is patience.
Allow yourself enough time to leisurely get the cookies decorated and you will have perfect results. If you make these cookies by matching the wedding party colors with the Wilton color chart, the bride and groom will reserve a special place for you in their hearts! Also, there is some down time associated with the process and you can use that time to make the wedding cake! Wouldn’t that be something?
Once your cookies have completely dried, place them in a covered plastic container. You will need to separate them with wax paper. You can also place them in cellophane bags to be used as wedding favors. This can be done up to a week in advance. That certainly is helpful if you have a lot going on around the event!
