How to make and sew a Duvet Cover

March 18, 2017 March 3, 2018 Renee Romeo3586 views

How to make and sew a duvet cover!

Many of you want to learn how to make and sew a duvet cover. It’s the perfect project for a beginner. If you have a sewing machine and have never used it, try using it on this project.  Making a custom duvet cover is not a complicated project. Don’t worry, I take you through every step, start to finish.

Make and sew a duvet cover that is custom sized.

This sewing project is the best answer to completely cover pillow top mattresses, no matter how thick. There are many beautiful comforters and coverlets out there that may do the job but none of them are one-of-a-kind creations that no one has but you! Many fabric stores today have a Home Dec department, full of beautiful fabrics. They are available in the appropriate width for this type of large project. I cover all the basics.

I will teach you how to measure for the correct amount of fabric and how a pattern influences how much fabric to purchase. If pattern matching (at the seams) scares you, I will take the mystery out of this process too. You will have a perfectly matched pattern throughout the duvet cover. You may not even be able to detect where you seamed the fabric together – you will be able to do it that well! Finally, I will cover how to organize and assemble all of the pieces so that everything makes sense.

Take how to to the next level!

While you’re at it, you can add Euro shams to complete the project and have a virtually new bedroom. You can control the quality, weight and durability of the duvet cover by simply making the correct fabric choices. Best yet, this bed cover can also be reversible. If you can’t choose which fabric to use, you can use two different fabrics for two different looks. That makes this project one of the most budget-friendly purchases you can make!
