Amazing Repurposed Old Door Ceiling Light Fixture

February 20, 2018 March 27, 2018 Renee Romeo4717 views

My amazing repurposed old door ceiling light fixture.

This amazing repurposed old door ceiling light fixture is going to astound you! Do you save old construction materials from previous jobs or homes? I always save items that are in good shape, valuable and have the ability to be repurposed. This is good practice for any DIY-er because it can lead to real savings on your home improvement projects. The old door that I’m using today came out of my previous home, moved across three state lines and is ready to install in my current home.

The problem is that the ceiling light fixture is the wrong color!

In this video tutorial, I show how to add a beautiful faux finish the side of the door that faces the floor, Why don’t I finish the back side the same way? I’m hanging it against a low drop ceiling in my basement. I want to reflect as much light as possible onto the table surface below it. If I paint the backside a dark color, the light would absorb into that surface. I want it to reflect off it. White is the perfect color choice because it blends into the ceiling and allows the faux finish to take center stage.

Shop repurposed old doors at antique shops.

If you don’t have a door to use, antique shops are a great way to find a unique door(s) to use. You can use the door in its weathered state for a Farmhouse look or refinish it to look brand new. Mine is from a big box store. You only need a few simple pieces of hardware to install this to the ceiling securely. Think safety first because this door is full of glass and you don’t want it to fall. You’ll wish you thought of this yourself!
