3D Shark Week Meme Cake How-to
Make a 3D Shark Week Meme Cake with me! Shark Week is a big deal in the USA. What is Shark Week? It’s an entire week of television programming that devotes its content solely to the love of sharks. Because of that, I think it’s a great idea to pair up with my friend and fellow YouTube-r, Joe P. Krcma from Joe Makes to collaborate on a great white shark cake. Since I bake and Joe Makes does 3D printing, we think this project will be an extra special treat to make together. Our skills sets may be different but we think this is a SWEET project for Shark Week! Joe prints the shark week accessories while I make the cake. Please join our YouTube channels to see both full projects.
It’s a Great White Shark!
Well, not exactly… we think kids like bright colors so our shark is blue. Joe Makes has several different colorful food grade materials to use for his 3D printing. What does that mean? It means that we can bury all of his 3D printed treasures in and around our 3D Shark Week Meme Cake and not worry about contamination! This materials technology has come a long way in such a short period of time. Companies even make 3D printers that can print in chocolate! Joe Makes isn’t using a chocolate printer here but he did send me a food safe mold that I will fill with chocolate. This mold is actually a replica of the license plate in the movie Jaws. The movie characters actually pull it out of a shark’s stomach!
You are what you eat?
Sure! And why not eat what a shark eats? … or something like that. Our cake design allows for the insertion of Joe Makes’ AMAZING 3D printed accessories directly into the cake! We have an internal stomach, made out of strawberry jello for this purpose. It’s going to taste way better than any real shark stomach can (even if you’re into that kind of thing). His accessories are floating around in a hollow made of jello, just waiting to be found by kids and adults alike. Throw a party just to cut into this cake during Shark Week. The festival premiers Sunday, July, 28 2019. You can think of this cake as the counterpart to the Mardi Gras King Cake (where you find a replica of baby Jesus that brings you good luck). But when you cut into our cake, you’ll get a treasure trove of fun replicas!
Make this a treasure hunt!
It’s so fun searching for all the 3D art that Joe Makes designs. All the 3D printed accessories are too large to swallow so don’t worry about choking on the 3D printed pieces – but still be careful not to bite down on anything that’s not edible. If you want to make the cake COMPLETELY edible, you can insert soft candies or chocolates into the jello stomach. You can also follow my entire cake making tutorial or buy a box cake for baking. I think my cake is so light, airy and vanilla-y, you’ll take the plunge and make yours from scratch too. It’s easy when you follow along with my step-by-step video. I provide all the necessary Shark Week Cake and Frosting Recipes that get you done baking and icing in a short time. This is one of the most fun cakes to assemble!
Have fun making this with your kids…
You have the ability to make this 3D Shark Week Meme Cake over the course of time. Make the cakes – because you need two – on one day (and freeze them). Make the jello on another day. Mix the icing on a different day and ice the cake on the day you need it. If you complete all the steps on a rainy day, you keep them from getting bored on a day indoors. This cake project is also great to teach children how to bake. It’s a win/win kitchen craft project. If you can’t find a online pattern, I like to see who can draw a great shark cake pattern too. Don’t forget to reference a photo of the largest great white shark on earth! See what other creatures live in the ocean too!
WIN * WIN * WIN
Did I say contest? I did now! Joe Makes and I are giving away his 3D Shark Week Meme Cake accessories, along with my shark pattern to the person that subscribes to both of our channels AND leaves a creative comment about this project. We think this is a great way to get to give back to our audiences and share in the sweet fun! I hope you participate in this fun giveaway and make an exact replica of our cake too. It’s a really colorful, fun baking project. It’s sure to please an entire crowd of great white shark lovers who love a good treasure hunt. Shark Week premieres in the United States on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
