Make Grout Cleaner Looking with Grout Paint
Let me teach you how I make grout cleaner looking with grout paint. Unlike my video post that shows you a review of Black Diamond Grout Cleaner, I’m not chemically trying to change the appearance of the grout on my floors. I’m actually changing the way the grout looks ENTIRELY by applying paint to the surface. So, can you paint grout? Yes, you can! Changing grout line color is easy and relatively fast. I take you through the whole process in this quick video. You can even make repairs to your grout while you’re doing this so that your floors last a lifetime.
Grout Cleaner
First, you need to know how to clean grout. If you want to try lifting the color of the grout with a grout cleaning machine before you start this process, it’s not necessary. The best way to clean grout (for our purposes) is to simply wash your floor the way you normally do. I recommend cleaning the entire surface before you start this process. Grout cleaning with a grout brush may be necessary if you have an abnormal amount of grime build-up or mildew on the surface of the grout. So, I really recommend that the grout be clean before you start this project.
While cleaning tile grout is one way to enhance the appearance of your tile floors, it won’t allow you to completely change or recolor grout. Many of us are in situations where our floors are clean but the grout lines are discolored due to age, which ages the appearance of the flooring. No matter how much scrubbing is done, learning how to get grout white again remains elusive. Until now! I have a great way to MIRACULOUSLY change your grout color to a beautiful, even-looking surface that looks brand new. You just need the correct method to get great adhesion for the new grout paint and it’s in the form of an etching solution, available here. And… don’t forget your safety glasses while using it!
A Grout Repair Solution too!
I’m also including my idea for tile grout repair. It’s a quick fix that will take cake of any unstable grout in your floor. Sometimes during grouting and installation, a bad mix can occur within the grout due to poor water quality, undermixing, overmixing, overuse of liquid or underuse of liquid. All of these variables can lead to an unstable grout line and it can be pervasive over the entire surface of your floor. You can fix these areas with the proper caulk and create a more stable surface for many years to come.
I won’t show you how to grout tile in this video but if you need to do an all-over repair to your floor before getting started, please check out another one of my videos that may help you with that situation here. Fortunately, most of us won’t need such vigorous repairs. I show you the problem areas in my tile grout and what can typically be repaired easily and permanently without mixing a single batch of grout. By performing this task (even on the smallest of cracks), you will make your floors look flawless. This process easily takes care of cracked or missing grout.
How to change the color of grout in 60 seconds
I know it sounds silly but grout paint takes even less time than that to apply. When you see how to change grout color with my process, each grout line will be finished in about that time frame. A typical bathroom may take around two hours to complete the first coat and slightly less for the second coat. Did I say second coat? Sorry about that. You DO need a second coat on your grout lines to get the opacity and durability you want. This is specially important if you’re making a dramatic color change. When you learn how to change grout color, you’ll understand that one coat just won’t do!
Grout paint before and after:
I give you ideas on how to change grout color darker or lighter, depending upon your decor. If you want to know how to change the color of grout, paint is the ultimate grout colorant. My before and after examples will have you choosing the correct color of your ‘new’ grout lines too. I show you exactly how I choose the color for my grout lines and the best grout paint to use for the project. You literally have a rainbow of colors to choose from, not just a few grout colors available at the tile shop. I’m not using grout dye or a grout pen. I have the entire supply list here: Make Grout Cleaner Looking Supply List so that you can print it out and take it to the store with you.
I show you (step-by-step) how to change your grout color on your floor tile! Can you paint grout lines perfectly straight? Yes. Anyone that can hold a paintbrush can do it. Your before and after will be just as dramatic as mine. This is an easy 5 step process that gets the job done fairly quickly. Clean, etch, paint, paint, buff and you’re done. Depending upon the size of your space, an average bathroom should take three and a half hours to paint. This depends upon the size of your tile (I’m basing this on my speed) but you can expect similar results.
Grout sealer is unnecessary!
This is absolutely the BEST part of this entire project. You will never have to seal your grout again. Sealing is a pesky chore that needs to be done every six months (or more often), in order to repel stains. In my opinion, this is a maintenance nightmare for homeowners. I want to make my floors look perfect all the time with just a normal cleaning routine. Don’t you too?
So, can you paint grout with regular paint? Only with the CORRECT paint you will have a new surface that repels stains, liquids and wear for many years to come. Please view the video for my choice of paint and the application process. Because paint adhesion is the biggest concern, you need to follow instructions on the products that I’m using to get the same results I do. You will make grout cleaner looking with grout paint too!
